Dirty On Purpose /// “Your Summer Dress” /// Hallelujah Sirens

In a twee mood but weary of the usual suspects, I looked to a pair of acts that I’d only ever given half a chance: the too-quickly disbanded Dirty On Purpose and introvert duo Electric President. Both can seem like weak tea on a first pass, but then again, there are days when that’s the cure-all you want. And there’s something defiant in their prettiness, their precious melodies, or even the way “Your Summer Dress” manages to caramelize its cuddly low end. After all, these boys and girls been known to shred and fuzz out when a song needs it; how many avant-garde noiseheads have the sack to be simple now and then?
