I get the unverifiable notion that Scandinavian pop succeeds as a crossbreeding of islander and Continental temperament. Don’t Stop has the lucidity of slick Britpop and the club-ready backgrounds of the finest Eurotrash. There’s no accounting, of course, for the way this silver guitar tone feels quintessentially New Order, or how this foggy synth loop seems the property of a Balkan trance scene, but with a Norwegian diva like Annie straddling the geographic markers, who in the whole EU could resist?
