Is it chillwave exhaustion or is Toro Y Moi’s would-be 2K10 juggernaut just not firing on all cylinders?  The swoony sea foam drift is as unobjectionable as ever on Causers Of This, languorous enough to make the album feel an interminable hour long when it’s barely half that.  And for supposedly relaxing music, the sound has an unnatural density that gets more grating the longer you immerse yourself—by the overcompressed lull of “You Hid,” you’re up against a hardcore smothering.  I’ve been sticking to the pair of cuts at the top of the running order, “Blessa” and “Minors” remaining pleasant oases outside the airless confines of the LP proper.
